Ola!

Since the Bear is such a cool and groovy fella I figured I would do a little something for him to show how much I respect him.

The Year Ahead

At the start of a new year its always seemed beneficial to set out what you would like to achieve in the coming months and so here’s Rude Gifts year ahead.

First off in our mugs category will be the introduction of our new Colour change WOW mugs which are going to be brilliant for delivering humorous or rude messages as they will only be revealed when their is hot water in the mug, when cold the message disappears. Bloody brilliant for all of us practical jokers. We also plan on adding a section of adult novelty rude gifts which will include things like chocolate willies and lovers candy g-strings for both men and women as well as some emergency mini vibrators. (you cant be too prepared girls.)

On the T shirt front we have a number of designs in the pipeline including University of Tantric sex, a whole range of FYI t shirts as well as Hand signals t shirts.

So we have a bit to do next year and we are certainly going to be having fun along the way.

This piece, which is my favourite for a number of reasons, was done by The Bear after the Dawg gave him the Steve Jobs book as an early Christmas present.

The Closeup of the JobsDawg will be going up in my office and be fondly remembered as the moment The Bear cracked the Digital technique.

The Wacom Dilemma…………the genius pops up and says hello!

I started writing these posts about the bears digital dilemma because I already knew that the story had a wonderful ending and here is the first inkling of a breakthrough for the Bear and it occurred after he had already rejected the brushes from Corel painter 12 and then subsequently Photoshops CS5 as not being good enough. (he went on a bit longer than that about their failings but I figure you know that by now and would appreciate me keeping it short.)

Anyway a while back I tried to give the bear some homework and what I asked is for him to take one of his pencil sketches, scan it onto the Computy and just trace over it using the wacom tablet. This idea he shot down as he had tried this and it just “does’nt work for me!”…………..sigh! artists huh!

Anyway the bear all on his tod decides that he might try working in Adobe illustrator because he has been using it for years doing commercial graphic work and it’s his favourite. So he creates a pencil sketch, old schooly, using a HB pencil and then scans it into the Computy and traces over it using a pen in Illustrator (sounds familiar eh?)

Anyway enough sniping because here is the result which blew me away

During the Wacom Design scandal the following discussion took place that would have long lasting implications.

Basically the Bear, who does all the Artwork and Illustrations of the Dawg and the Bear, and who also creates all the artistic content and brings the characters to life ….implied in a really lovely way, that he could make something out of the “The Dawg & The Bear” story.

The Dawg, being truly enlightened and perceptive, as well as cuddly and lovable, felt the Bears craving for illustrator Fame and Fortune and selflessly said to the Bear

YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL………………..YOU DESERVE IT!

Caveat: all I ask is a Full Size portrait of the Bear in a Lime green or Bright Pink Mankini!

In summary ……………………the Dawg gave away a Cartoon character who will be as famous as Bart Simpson in return for a small loss of dignity on the Bears part and the bear being a Proud, Self respecting and beyond acts of selfless gratitification happily agreed.

His first attempt shown below was rejected because WHO? has seen a Bear with a Cute ass like that.

EXACTLY! HE’s FRIGGIN DELUDED.

I await the official version and I promise I will post it up once I have it………………purely to show the wonders of his work of course.

Going nowhere on a Bike

Following the watercolour’esk detour, the Bear decides to give the W another go by copying a Steadman sketch. Now if you know Steadmans work you would probrably agree its a good match. But the Dawg knows that The Bear is a genius and should not be copying anyone’s work, other than the dawg first landscape done at 12 years old which is still thought of as the work of a wunderkind.

With that kind of intro you are obviously not expecting to be impressed …………………………but here it is anyway.

You could just feel it, the moment when the Bear embraced the future, he would be famous beyond words, he would be on every morning TV program…………..and girl bears would adore him.

But NO! On the verge of stardom, at the moment when he had believe in his glorious talents he decides…………………”It’s just not right for me Dawg, I’m just not getting the right feeling, it seems forced!”

The feeling in the Kennel was of utter disappointment. The Bear had retreated into his cave once more………………………. Sigh!

So instead of using the wacom he retreats to using NEW technique which he thinks the Dawg would find pleasing. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas Ifffffffffffff!

He produces this piece below, a pencil sketch with some colouring in using Painter 12. It was like him handing in someone else’s homework, shame on him.

Tsk Tsk! The Artists version of going retro!

How hard can it be?

Before I embark on a piss-take of the bear you need to know that he is actually incredibly talented illustrator. In fact given the chance he can draw like Da Vinci.

The problem he has is adapting to anything new & technology based, as he has a inbuilt distrust of computers. He just doesn’t understand them because his brain doesn’t work that way. Weirdly he has been working on computers for years, he’s a Mac man u see, but the relationship has always been distrustful and he knows that given the chance the damn computer will mess with him.

So imagine his trepidation when he is cajoled by the Dawg to draw using a Wacom tablet. Below is his first attempt which most of us would say “not bad” but the Bear hated it.
